Jean Madsen Gilles

Haitian impressionist artist Madsen Jn-Gilles was the closest disciple of the best known impressionist artist in the Caribbean, Ernest Louizor who died in 2011! Jean Madsen Gilles was born in Port-au-Prince. He grew up in Carrefour, in a neighborhood of artists and sculptors. He stayed in school until tenth grade and then attended art school for a year and a half. Ernst Louizor, the famous impressionist artist, was a very close neighbor and Gilles often watched him work. From watching Louizor, Gilles learned the technique of painting with a knife. He is known for painting charming scenes of everyday life in his country. Jean Madsen has worked hard to become one of the best students of the school of Louizor, almost attaining the perfection of his master.
